What is Reiki?
Reiki is a spiritual practice and healing technique that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words: “rei,” which means universal, and “ki,” which means life energy or vital force. Reiki practitioners believe that there is a universal energy that flows through all living beings, and by channeling this energy, they can promote healing, relaxation, and overall well-being.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient’s body, allowing the energy to flow through them and into the recipient. The practitioner may focus on specific areas of the body or work on the body as a whole, depending on the recipient’s needs. The recipient may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, or relaxation during the session.
Reiki is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatment to help manage pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. It is considered non-invasive and gentle, making it suitable for people of all ages and health conditions.
While scientific research on Reiki is still limited, many people report positive experiences with it, including feelings of peace, relaxation, and improved well-being. However, it’s important to note that Reiki should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment, but rather as a complementary therapy to support overall health and wellness.
